Aloq Staq, Sungai Petani & Changloon

From Langkawi, we took a ferry to Kuala Kedah. The journey took about an hour and half. Except for the rain at the start of the journey, the weather was great and we arrived safely at Kuala Kedah Jetty at about 3 pm. We left our rented car at the jetty point, somebody from the car rental company was there to collect the car, so we don't have to return the car and take take taxi, it was so easy and i definitely recommend you to rent a car when you are in the island, you'll never gonna get lost.. every road is leading to either Kuah or Pantai Cenang.. and ohh, also leading to the airport. They put up road signs that sometimes confuse you, but I guess, that's how things are in an island..
Babah was worried that we will have problem to unload the bags from the ferry when we arrived, as it turned out, it wasn't that hard. There were nice people who helped maknek and nekwan carry their bags and put them on the pathway just outside the ferry. Thankfully they also provided trolleys for rent, about RM1 per use and that helped us a lot as it was a long way to the exit door.

After about 15 minutes, babah's friend, Uncle Cut came and brought us to his house not far from the jetty. He's an old friend from his schooldays in Sains Kedah who helped us find a car to use during our stay in Kedah. We had drinks and at about 4 pm, we made our way to Sg Petani. Originally, our plan was to spend a night at Alor Setar, but babah thought it'll be a bit of a rush the next morning as the program starts at 8 am. So we decided to go to Nek Prancis house at Taman Ria, Sg Petani and it saved us a night at the hotel.

This is the place where we stayed for a night, El-Zahra Inn, owned by HPA, owner of Kopi Radix (remember the ads on TV in which a mat salleh is saying "nak secawan"?) and Radix Fried Chicken, a nice place indeed, but try to carry up the stairs three big and fully loaded travel bags to 3rd floor, you wish you'd stay at a full facility hotel with elevator and bell service ..
nice place, everything looked new, clean and Islamic, with kain pelikat & telekung provided..
and they have LCD tv too..
the bed is comfy.. think I am going to relax tonight ma and watch TV.. go buy me dinner please!!but.. mama & babah planned to try out Radix Fried Chicken next door.. I'm not going to miss this, I've been to Jolly Bee but never been to this one.. babah said there's another Fried Chicken outlet in Sg Petani called Mc 'something' but he couldn't remember if he ever frequented the place, and it still exists until today.. it's definitely not Mc Curry, a company sued by McDonald for using the 'Mc' in front of their name..
at Nek Prancis house.. his gazebo actually, he built in front of his house to relax and 'ambik angin', the place is wonderful at night with lights and flowers

this place is great..!! mama said if I like it, she'll ask nek Prancis to build one in front of our house in Bintulu..
with my second cousins.. children of Uncle Nizamposing for a group photo in front of Nek Prancis gazebo before we leave for Aloq Staq..and babah also want to have his photo taken with nek Prancis..

nekwan looked sad.. she said she will come back soon with Auntie Ida, I know she loves her brother very much..
soon after in Alor Setar, after checking in Regency Hotel, we went straight to Pekan Rabu, maknek loves this place.. she keeps talking about her first visit back in 1996 and how nothing much has changed since her last visit.. sigh..
and for me, I like the stairs.. babah had hard time trying to catch me..
catch me if you cannn...but maknek was up there to get hold of me..
view from top floor..
mama and nekwan were looking for door gifts or 'bunga telur' for our planned aqiqah this coming Hari Raya Haji, while I was busy going up and down the stairs
sampling buah berangan, just outside Pekan Rabu, Alor Setar

after that in the afternoon, we went up north to UUM in Sintok

finally.. I got to see the place where mama used to stay during her university days.. mama said it's a pity that the place is not well maintained.. *sigh*
nekwan loves buah limau bali.. this is one of many limau bali sellers near Changloon, Kedah
Hosba's famous Cendol Pulut.. look what they have become today.. babah said it used to be a small warung under a tree and they used to eat the cendol there..
I'll leave the food commentaries to expert.. but nekwan said the cendol is delicious, and maknek nodded her head.. in agreement I guess. I can't figure why it is so famous..
It was already late, and it was raining while we were on our way back to Alor Setar. Babah planned earlier to go to the home of his foster family, but the rain was so heavy and we went to Al Bukhari Mall instead. We are leaving on next morning flight to LCCT from Kepala Batas Airport so we have little time to shop in Aloq Setaq..
and here we were.. at the Kepala Batas Airport.. waiting for plane to LCCT .. by the way, the nasi lemak at the airport is fabulous!

at LCCT while waiting for our flight homegreat to be home after 5 nights away..
